Spiritual Misconceptions

Premillennialism’s Presumptuous Faux-Pa Points

The Bible is meant to be interpreted by allowing the clearer verses help us understand the more difficult ones. This concept is as easy as understanding the importance of simple arithmetic before attempting to grasp the concept of algebra, geometry, trigonometry, etc.. Learning what addition is all about is a step that we must take before A (squared) plus B (squared) equals C (squared) makes any sense.

Mathematically speaking everyone agrees that this makes sense, but unfortunately there are many people in the religious world who do not follow along with the same concept when it comes to certain doctrines thatFile:Millennial views.svg originate with the thinking of men and women instead allowing the truth to be seen through more plainly spoken verses. Such is particularly the case when it comes to the various teachings of premillennialism and the unfortunate presumptuous faux-pa points that it stands on despite the clear teachings of the Bible.

Points such as:

  • multiple resurrections and judgment days when the Bible clearly teaches there will be only one simultaneous resurrection and final judgment by Jesus (John 5:28-29)
  • a literal reign of Jesus as king from physical Jerusalem when the Bible clearly teaches that Jesus has already turned that down (John 6:15)
  • the return of animal sacrifices “during the millennia” when the Bible clearly teaches that they have been permanently removed by Jesus (Hebrews 10:9-18)
  • the “back-up plan” role of the church when the Bible clearly teaches that the church, through Jesus, was included in God’s plan of salvation for all of mankind from the beginning (Ephesians 3:1-11)
  • the delay of the presence of God’s kingdom upon the earth when the Bible clearly teaches that, according to Jesus, the kingdom of God was going to appear before the death of Jesus’ contemporaries (Mark 9:1)

The truth is, almost the entire foundation of premillennialism comes from the book of Revelation (particularly chapter 20), which is a highly symbolic chapter from a book of prophecy that uses heavy symbolism in ways which must be understood in light of the clearer meanings (plain speaking exhortations, reproofs and examples) found in the rest of the Bible’s letters. When one seeks to and follows through with rightly dividing the word of truth (2 Timothy 2:15) it becomes much easier to rightly divide any time-line that God has revealed and thus avoid exegetical studies that become embarrassing eisegesical mistakes.

When this is kept in mind it becomes much easier to see how the major points of premillennialism are very presumptuous in nature but still easy mistakes to correct. EA

Jesus answered and said to them, “You are mistaken, not knowing the Scriptures nor the power of God.” (Matthew 22:29)

Spiritual Mythbusters – Christians Shouldn’t Judge by Chris McCurley

I found this video on a friend’s blog.

The speaker’s sermon, which is called “Spiritual Mythbusters – Christians Shouldn’t Judge“, tackles (as the title obviously alludes to) the mistaken point of view that believes that all judging is wrong based upon the misunderstanding and abuse of Jesus’ words in Matthew 7:1 which says, “Do not judge, or you too will be judged.”

If you have the time it’s worth watching. If you don’t have the time then make some for it.

A proper understanding of this vital biblical topic can help lead to a better understanding of God’s will concerning our responsibility and how we arrive at a spiritual conclusion while dealing with the faults of others (2 Timothy 2:15).

To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”” (John 8:31-32)

Being a child of God is about relationship, not “relation”

Some in the religious world strongly insist that one cannot “lose” his or her eternal salvation: once a child of God, always a child of God, for one cannot stop being someone’s child any more than one can stop being someone’s parent they say.

But the point is spiritually moot because salvation is about relationship, not relation.

If you’re familiar with Jesus’ story of the “far country son” you can see the distinction. The boy who left home was still the father’s son, but to the father, the son was “dead” because there was no relationship: “for this my son
was dead
and is alive again; he was lost and is found.’ And they began to be merry.
” (Luke 15:24)

When the child came home it was the relationship that was restored because it was never the birth certificate that went missing – it was the son!

And so it is with an erring child of God. Unless the relationship is restored the “relation” counts for nothing (Matthew 3:9-10). EA

Then the Lord God took the man and put him in the garden of Eden to tend and keep it. And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, “Of every tree of the garden you may freely eat; but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.the son of Enosh, the son of Seth, the son of Adam, the son of God.” (Genesis 2:15-17; Luke 3:38)

Will God Bring Peace To My Family?

Few problems burden our sanity like family problems. When issues divide us from the people we’re closest to it hurts, and it can hurt really bad. And when we hurt like that we look for answers where we can find them, and more often than not the average person is more interested in drawing close to God when troublesome times draw near than at any other time – and this is especially true when family ties feel like they’re going to be cut. And a civil-war brewing under our roof can make a person want to know if God will bring peace to their family.

While I can completely and personally understand the want, most people ask the wrong question when it comes to God and family and peace. It’s not a matter of God’s will; it’s a matter of our own. The question that we should ask is, “Can God bring peace to my family?” Because the answer to that question is, yes! God wants families to live in peace with one another. But will God bring peace to every family? Sadly, the answer to that is, no. And he won’t because every family member won’t want the peace that he offers.

When family problems arise I encourage everyone to remember that just because you draw near to God doesn’t mean that others will follow with you, and Jesus said this much himself (Luke 12:51-53). So if we want the peace of God in our family we need to start by having it within our self – because we might be the only ones who know anything about it. EA

Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 4:6-7)

Did The Water Earn It For Them?

Read Exodus 14. Now, did the use of water earn the children of Israel their freedom from Egyptian slavery?

Read Exodus 30:17-21. Now, did the use of water earn the priests the right to serve within the Tabernacle?

Read 2 Kings 5:1-14. Now, did the use of water earn Naaman his cleansing from leprosy?

Read Acts 22:1-16. Now, if the grace of God could use water to free the children of Israel from their bondage, and the grace of God could use water to sanctify the Levites, and the grace of God could use water to cleanse Naaman from his impurities, then what makes a person today think that the use of water earns anything from God when it comes to his or her salvation? EA

Now when they heard this, they were cut to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, “Men and brethren, what shall we do?” Then Peter said to them, “Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.” (Acts 2:37-38)

You Can’t Bind the Sabbath Rest and Ignore the Rest that Comes with it

There are some people in the religious world who teach that the church is commanded by God to observe the Sabbath day rest.

Truth is if one wants to observe a personal Sabbath they have that spiritual right (Romans 14:5-6) but the right becomes a wrong when one attempts to bind a commandment upon the church that does not originate with God.

Now it’s true that at one time the Sabbath day was a commandment bound by God, but the binding was placed upon fleshly Israel by the Law of Moses through the 10 Commandments and no other nation (Deuteronomy 5).

You just can’t bind the commandment of the Sabbath rest while ignoring the rest that comes with the commandment (Exodus 31:14-15, 35:1-3). EA

Tell me, you who desire to be under the law, do you not hear the law? For it is written that Abraham had two sons: the one by a bondwoman, the other by a freewoman. But he who was of the bondwoman was born according to the flesh, and he of the freewoman through promise, which things are symbolic. For these are the two covenants: the one from Mount Sinai which gives birth to bondage, which is Hagar—for this Hagar is Mount Sinai in Arabia, and corresponds to Jerusalem which now is, and is in bondage with her children—but the Jerusalem above is free, which is the mother of us all.” (Galatians 4:21-26)

Hell is not the Devil’s Domain

Is the prince of the world (John 14:30) the king of Hell? It seems as if many are convinced that it’s so but it’s not true.

While Satan may use many things to accomplish his destructive goal, destruction is what actually awaits him. And he knows it!

His future, along with the other angels who rebelled against the authority of Heaven (Jude 6), is dim, lit only with the fires of Hell.

When it comes to the final place of punishment, this place is prepared for the devil – it is not a place prepared by him:

Then He will also say to those on the left hand, ‘Depart from Me, you cursed, into the everlasting fire prepared for the devil and his angels:“(Matthew 25:41).

The Devil will not rule Hell, for his presence in Hell will reveal that the Devil has been ruled by God, the Lamb and the work of the Holy Spirit.

Satan, along with any other soul who will find themselves on the wrong side of God’s wrath, will find that God’s authority exists not only over Heaven, but also over Hell itself. EA

The devil, who deceived them, was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone where the beast and the false prophet are. And they will be tormented day and night forever and ever.” (Revelation 20:10)
