Do we have a direct line to the Divine when it comes to morality?

Hillary Clinton, in a recent interview about the evolution of her view on homosexual marriage with Terry Gross, host of NPR’s “Fresh Air”,  said:

One of my big problems right now is that too many people believe they have a direct line to the divine and they never want to change their mind about anything,

Well one of my big problems with that is when it comes to homosexual marriage and its morality we do have a direct line to the divine – it’s called the word of God (a.k.a. the Bible).

As surely as the word of God reveals his righteousness (Romans 1:16-17) it also reveals the sin that violates it (1 John 5:17). And as surely as the word of God contains the answer to sin (1 John 2:1) it also contains the sins that create the need for an answer (Romans 1:18-32; Galatians 5:13-26; Colossians 3:1-10; Revelation 21:5-8, 22:10-15) which includes the sin of homosexuality.

The problem doesn’t come from not knowing whether or not we have “a direct line to the divine” – it’s that people are ignoring what they hear when they pick up the phone! EA

Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God. And such were some of you. But you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus and by the Spirit of our God.” (1 Corinthians 6:9-11)

    1. Despite the fact that I believe you’re trying to bait me for a harsh response, or else you wouldn’t be wasting your time making a comment toward someone that you know isn’t going to agree with you, and despite the fact that you obviously didn’t read one single scripture reference that I provided, I’m going to say this as politely but as plainly as possible for the sake of your soul and the souls of the people who attend your church: 1) your “church” just helped to condemn two people to Hell, and 2) the only source of spiritual enlightenment, in regards to sin and salvation from it, that is needed is found in the word of God (Ephesians 1:13-18) which, on a spiritual level, plainly condemns the act of homosexuality no matter what “church” condones it.

      1. No, Eugene, actually, I was trying to bring you to the truth, for the truth would set you free- but you do not have ears to hear. Yes, I have read your references. No, you have no understanding of the Bible.

      2. Hmm. Scripture references abundantly provided by my self that clearly show that homosexuality is a sin and nothing but a vague distortion and perversion of John 8:32 and you saying that I’m wrong.

And who has no understanding about the Bible again? Let me show you how silly you sound when you try to have a conversation about the Bible and homosexuality. You said “your church” earlier which obviously shows that you believe in a church of some kind. Tell me, how do you even know about the existence of the church?

      3. You really have it bad, don’t you? There you are, the Remnant, the last proper Christian while all around people are becoming (gasp!) Tolerant! of Homosexuality!

      4. The only reason you know about the church, whether you were “brought up” in it or not, is because of the New Testament. Without the New Testament you or I would not know a single thing about it.

Now, the same New Testament also says, “Nevertheless the solid foundation of God stands, having this seal: “The Lord knows those who are His,” and, “Let everyone who names the name of Christ depart from iniquity.”” (2 Timothy 2:19)

And what does departing from iniquity (sin that goes against God) entail? Well the New Testament, which is the only reason that you even know about the church, says, “Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God. And such were some of you. But you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus and by the Spirit of our God.” (1 Corinthians 6:9-11) which means that departing from iniquity includes a repentance of living the homosexual lifestyle as some of the Christians at Corinth had to do and did do.

Therefore, when it comes to living the Christian lifestyle, which is only found in the New Testament, in the church that Jesus Christ founded, which is only known about because of the New Testament, a person cannot be a practicing homosexual, whether “married” or not, and expect eternal life in Heaven. So if anyone is going to talk about the church and homosexuality they, by default, have to talk about what the only book that describes the church says about homosexuality – and never one time is it approved of as the multiple scripture references in the original post show.
