You Can’t Bind the Sabbath Rest and Ignore the Rest that Comes with it

There are some people in the religious world who teach that the church is commanded by God to observe the Sabbath day rest.

Truth is if one wants to observe a personal Sabbath they have that spiritual right (Romans 14:5-6) but the right becomes a wrong when one attempts to bind a commandment upon the church that does not originate with God.

Now it’s true that at one time the Sabbath day was a commandment bound by God, but the binding was placed upon fleshly Israel by the Law of Moses through the 10 Commandments and no other nation (Deuteronomy 5).

You just can’t bind the commandment of the Sabbath rest while ignoring the rest that comes with the commandment (Exodus 31:14-15, 35:1-3). EA

Tell me, you who desire to be under the law, do you not hear the law? For it is written that Abraham had two sons: the one by a bondwoman, the other by a freewoman. But he who was of the bondwoman was born according to the flesh, and he of the freewoman through promise, which things are symbolic. For these are the two covenants: the one from Mount Sinai which gives birth to bondage, which is Hagar—for this Hagar is Mount Sinai in Arabia, and corresponds to Jerusalem which now is, and is in bondage with her children—but the Jerusalem above is free, which is the mother of us all.” (Galatians 4:21-26)

  1. Our New Testament Calling, To Be Kings And Priests Unto God!

Out of the Old Testament we have examples of people who were not given the fullness of God’s power, so it was impossible for them to walk in the fullness of the power of God.
The example we are given out of the Old Testament is the example of the priests and their duty in the service of God in the Most Holy Place. Our calling in the New Testament follows the duties of the Priests in the Old Testament. As we look at the scriptures, we will see that our calling to day is to offer up “spiritual sacrifices” to God through Jesus Christ in the service of the office of Priest. In the Old Testament the priests were to be holy, but we can only be holy through the Holy Ghost. “In” the Holy Ghost is where the great cloud of witnesses is found.

    1. Robert, you are welcome to comment but please let your comment be just that – a comment, and not one of your posts copied and pasted under the guise of a comment. I allowed the first part of your “comment” and the scripture references themselves to stay but I took off the actual verses themselves due to the fact that they alone were about 20x the length of my original post.

I hear you on how all New Testament Christians are called to act as priests before God in our service to him, but I’m not sure what your comment has to do with the article other than maybe you’re saying we have a fuller revelation of God’s will under the New Law through Jesus when it comes to things such as the Sabbath and the Tabernacle/Temple.

If you’d like to clarify feel free, but again, please keep your comments pertinent to the article on which you comment.

      Thanks.

      1. As you look back to the office of Priest in the Old Testament you see that thier duty was to ministier to the Lord in the Holy of Holies. Everybody in New Testament is called to that same duty today in Christ Jesus. The rest of God is also the Sabbath of the Lord . Today the Sabbath of the Lord can only be found in being born again of God the Father, where we do not sin. The Old Testament Sabbath was a type and shadow of the works of Jesus Christ being glorified through us who seek no our own glory, but the glory that God gave Jesus for his obeiiance to faith.
